“happy spring” Easel Card

Today’s card is an easel card.  I’d never made one until last week.  I watched a bunch of you-tube videos and read some on-line tutorials before attempting my first one.  The one I’m posting is probably my fifth or sixth–I can’t stop making them!

• I started with a Powder (soft blue) Memory Box notecard.  I used a bone folder to get a really nice crease on the fold.  
• Then I scored the front of the card halfway at 2 1/8, made that fold toward the inside of the card, and creased it sharply with the bone folder.
• I took another Powder notecard and cut it close to the fold line to use as the card’s front panel.
• I cut a piece of Squash Dot Paper 4 X 5 1/4 and cut a strip of Key Lime Dot Paper 1/8 by 5 1/2.  I also cut a strip of white cardstock 1 X 5 1/2.

Next, I die cut all of the pieces I would need.

• WRAPPED CIRCLES 30114–cut one 3.1″ circle from Squash Dot Paper
• INTRICATE BEE 99920–cut one from black cardstock
• PAINTED FLOWER STEMS 99942–cut from Key Lime Dot Paper

To put this card together:

• Assemble the front panel.  Glue on the circle and use a large pop-dot to secure the bee.  Then add the Key Lime Painted Flower Stems, trimming the “hill” to fit.  At this point I added dimensional flowers purchased from Birch Press Design–three of the smallest Ainsely Flowers.
• Set this panel aside and pick up the folded notecard.  On the largest flat area, add the Squash Dot Paper panel.
• Next put adhesive (I used Scor-Tape) on the bottom folded part, being careful not to get any on the crease.  Line up the bottom of the finished panel with the bottom of this folded area and secure the panel to the notecard.  You’ll see that your panel now wants to stand up, showing part of the base that is where the Squash  Dot Paper is.
• Take the 1″ white cardstock piece and add the 1/8″ strip of Key Lime Dot Paper across the top.   I used Archival Jet Black Ink to stamp “happy spring” from the SPRING BUNNIES Clear Stamps Set CL5220 .
• Add foam dimensional tape to the back of the stamped cardstock strip and adhere it to the card base where you want the panel to rest when it is standing up.  

As you untuck the panel from the base stopping strip, you’ll see that the card will then lie flat for tucking into a standard A2 envelope.

I hope you’ll try making an easel card.  I can’t wait to send mine off to a friend.
