Special Hugs
by Trina Pham

Hello there.  I have a simple card to share today.  It was not meant to be, but ended up being, a sympathy card after a long time family friend of my husband passed away unexpectedly last week.

Started by die cutting watercolor paper with the Wrapped Stitch Rectangle die.  Watercolored the background using Wilted Violet and Mermaid Lagoon distress inks (DI).  Splattered with Black Soot DI and white gouache paint for a bit of texture.

The butterflies were die cut from Bristol paper.  Only the detailed part of the large Sylvan butterfly was die cut and adhered directly onto the watercolor panel.  The shadow piece of the small Glade butterfly was watercolored first using the same DI, then heat embossed with clear glitter embossing powder for some sparkle.  The sentiment was white heat embossed on black cardstock.

Assembled the card to finish, popping the small butterfly up with mounting tape.
And that does it for today.  Thank you for joining me.  Have a wonderful day.

  1. A beautiful and delicate sympathy card, Trina. Love the watercolored background you’ve made to highlight the butterflies. Lovely shimmery on the small one which beautifully flutters over the card.

  2. Gorgeous colours! Love the way you only backed the smaller butterfly – it’s got beautiful sparkle!

  3. Beautiful card that could be used for so many occasons, Trina! Love the soothing colours of purple and blue for your watercoloured background. The butterflies are so pretty over top and I love that added shimmer from the smaller butterfly. Great design!

  4. Sorry for your husband’s friend, Trina. It seems that there are a lot of people that pass away unexpectedly in these times.
Your CAS card looks very sweet, love those double butterflies and wow, such fabulous touch is the muted sparkling embossing in the back of the small one!! It’s a clever detail, so classy!
