Greetings friends. Today I want to share another background technique using your metal dies. This time I chose to pair the die with Copic markers (alcohol ink) as well as some blending solution (alcohol) to create a tie-dye looking background.
Step one was to take a piece of Yupo paper and draw some stripes onto the paper using Copic markers. Yupo paper is a synthetic paper that works well with alcohol inks because the ink doesn’t sink down into the paper as it would with normal cardstock.
Next, I placed my die on top of my striped paper (die cutting side facing up) and spritzed the whole thing with Copic blending solution. You could also use Isopropyl alcohol for this technique. This was the result:
I spritzed my paper a lot, so the colors really blended with each other. You can control the amount of spritzing you do to change the look of the card.
Here is a close up of the background as well as the sentiment I selected. When I spend the time to create my own backgrounds, I try not to cover them up too much with more layers.
One last tip. I used a black rhinestone for the dot in the “I” instead of the die cut piece. I find that the rhinestones are easier to use. Plus, they add a little extra bling.
