Mixed Media Beetle Birthday Card
by Sara Cook

Hi everyone.  Once I saw the Brilliant Beetles I knew I had to do a mixed media background for these bugs.  This was a fun card to create and I love how it turned out.

Background:

Trim Distress Heavy Kraft Card stock to 3″ x 5 1/2″ piece and a 3 1/2″ x 6″ piece.  Take a brayer and pick up Distress Paint in Tattered Rose and roll it on the smaller paper, making sure it is applied unevenly.  Heat dry. Next repeat using a white acrylic paint, only adding a little.  Heat dry. Use a sponge and apply some Ground Espresso Distress Paint lightly sponging it on randomly creating some crackle like texture.  Use the rest of the Ground Espresso and pain on the larger piece of paper. Heat dry both.  Spray Distress Spray Stain in Vintage Photo all other the smaller paper.  Let set for a few minutes, do NOT dry.  Use a baby wipe or damp paper towel and lightly wipe off the spray. This will darken up all the previous layers, giving it a vintage look.

Beetles:

Die cut the Brilliant Beetles from Distress Mix Media card stock.  Spray Bubbling Cauldron Distress Mica Stain the largest beetle top and Harvest Moon over 2 of the middle size beetle. Heat dry.  Use your finger and lightly add Distress Ink Vintage Photo ever the top of the bodies. Let set and then wipe with a damp towel.  Ink blend all head and leg die cuts using Ground Espresso Distress Ink.  Ink blend the antenna using Distress Ink Black Soot.  Adhere together using the envelope as a guide.  Add Glossy Accents to the top of the beetles.  let air dry.

Assembly:

Adhere the top mixed media background to the painted back ground using foam tape. Adhere to a mini-slimline card. Adhere the largest beetle to the center and then the others on top and bottom.  Adhere a Happy Birthday Foil Greetings Black Tab to the center of the large beetle.
