Welcome to the final post for day 5 of the What's in the Box blitz! I hope you've enjoyed the samples this week as much as I have.
It was hard, but I finally chose the Prim Poppy die for my focal images –
I die cut 98310 Prim Poppy from Strathmore Smooth Bristol paper. Color using your favorite mediums – I used Marvy markers to do an overall wash on the poppy petals and then used a water brush and Peerless watercolors to add shading and color variation. For the stems I used a waterbrush and Memento markers. Trim off as desired to create your "field". The die cut on the right is what it looks like untrimmed. The center image has just the tallest poppy trimmed out. I flipped over the unopened poppy portion and glued it to the left side of the die cuts on the left. (Hope this all makes sense :) To finish off the edges of the poppy die cuts, take a red and green markers and go over the sides to cover up the white paper.
For the background, I die cut 98297 Debutante Frame from Poisin Ivory Curious Iridescents paper. To add texture and depth, I stamped G1842 Mercer Rose Background twice with VersaMark – it was easy to do using the center indentation on the die to line up the stamp. While the VersaMark is still wet, swipe a juicy Distress Scattered Straw ink pad over the image. The pattern will appear like magic. Rub off excess ink with a tissue. Here's another tip – Place a piece of Scotch poster tape on your nonstick craft mat to hold the die cut in place when stamping and inking. Sponge the edges of the die cut with Distressed Brushed Corduroy.
Next cut another frame from Onyx metallic cardstock, place the 98302 Tessatina Border die on the edge of the frame die cut and tape down the border die and run it through your die cut machine. – That will give you the matching edge for the background die cut. Glue poppies and Tessatina border with Elmer's Craft Bond Extra Strength glue stick or Elmer's X-Treme school glue stick to the Debutante Frame – the advantage to the Craft Bond is that it goes on purple so that you can tell the coverage your getting – but it dries clear and disappears on the top of the die cut. Attach frame to a Slate notecard with foam tape.
Here are some more samples using the frame die cut and Mercer Rose Background with different colors of ink to give you some more ideas:
The first used Faded Jeans, next Scattered Straw, next Dusty Concord, and finally Forest Moss – I think it looks like fabric. It makes a nice soft background for many different uses. Sorry this is so wordy, but hopefully these are some tips you can use.
