Double-Embossing the Lydia Ornament

Details, details!  The new Lydia Ornament combines a delicate diecut design with an embossed texture that's even better when it's embossed a second time. Jean Okimoto here, with more from the just-released Holiday 2014 Collection – and another way to use the Grand Joyeux Noel Die.

Cut Lydia Ornament from Key Lime Cardstock and leave it in the die.  Dry-emboss the textured design again using the embossing mats and/or plates recommended for your diecut machine.  I used the following sequence for the Grand Calibur:

  • Gray base plate
  • Memory Box Metal Adapter Plate
  • Lydia Ornament die containing the diecut
  • Rubber embossing mat
  • Light pink embossing plate

Think of the rubber embossing mat, together with the light pink embossing plate, as the equivalent of the cutting plate.  The ornament is already diecut and embossed once, you're just embossing it again for added texture.

Cut Traditional Ornament from red felt.

Cut the Ornament Hooks and Caps from gold mirror cardstock.  Cut the "noel" portion of the Grand Joyeux Noel from Key Lime Distressed Dots.

Cut an irregularly-shaped piece of Dove Gray Cardstock.  Attach everything to a Graphite Notecard and add sequins.  Coordinate the card with a Key Lime Notecard for a festive pop of color.

Your creation just amaze me. The composition is relatively easy, yet you make look so elegant. Gorgeous, just gorgeous.

  3. Very lovely die design makes a pretty card. Like your choice of colors.

  4. The Lydia ornament does give an Asian feel to the ornament…loved my year in Japan!

  5. Such amazing dies, you make it look so easy to create such beautiful cards that really can be put together rather quickly (if you aren’t too fussy like me 🙂 LOL) and pack a real impressive punch when the recipient opens the envelope. Love all the little details too, hooks, caps, embossing!!!
