We Don’t Have to Shovel Rain!
by Anne Thompson

We’re expecting a huge amount of rain today and into Tuesday as well as high winds and flood warnings. So I felt it was appropriate to feature the Rainy Day Mouse with his umbrella against the backdrop of the Raindrop Plate. I also added a little note to the Hooray tag for fun–I’m pretty tired of shoveling snow here in the northeast, so the rain is a welcome change. Hopefully March rain will bring April flowers! A friend nearby has Snowdrops up already, so spring is on the way.

These are the materials I used: RAINY DAY MOUSE 94897; UMBRELLA TRIO 94899; RAINDROP PLATE 94902; SUNRISE CARD STOCK SP1013; LAGOON CARD STOCK SP1010; ANEMONE PLAID PP1025; AUTUMN FAIRY JEWELS JWL004; “Hooray” tag from BIRTHDAY PARTY FOIL GREETING TAGS WHITE ST040; scraps of white, gray, and black card stock; Bubble Gum Hero Arts ink and a fingertip dauber; white top-fold note card.

To make this card, I began by die cutting the Raindrop Plate from one of the Lagoon blue papers. I trimmed that to 3 1/2 X 4 3/4 and added it to a darker blue Lagoon paper that I had trimmed to 4 X 5 1/4. I attached that panel to the front of the top-fold note card.

Next I die cut the Rainy Day Mouse from scraps of white and gray card stocks and a small piece of yellow Sunrise card stock. I glued all the mouse pieces together, inked the ears, and added Fairy Jewels for the eyes and nose. I then cut the body of the large umbrella from an Anemone blue plaid and the handle from a scrap of black card stock. I threaded the “Hooray” tag through the umbrella handle.

I used dimensional foam dots to attach the mouse, the umbrella, and the tag to the raindrop panel.

Spring arrives in a few days officially, so I expect there is more rain in our future. Rainy Day Mouse and his umbrella are likely to show up on any number of spring cards!
