Hello Memory Box Friends!
Ready to get a jump on your Christmas cards? We all know you can spend a lot of time on your cards but sometimes it’s the design idea that takes the most time–planning composition, colors, embellishments and textures….here’s one idea for you to try out.
So many of us think of poinsettia flowers as deep red in color but I have seen some lovely pink ones…here’s mine.
Starting with the background, I sponged these colors randomly onto white card stock: faded jeans, broken china, and fossilized amber distress oxide inks. A few spritzes of plain water which, when blotted, add the speckles (aka falling snow) to the blended inks. I love making these backgrounds since no two look alike…the colors flow and swirl to make beautiful original bases for the next step.
I die cut the Decorative Poinsettia from a vanilla colored card stock along with a smaller size flower from the Poinsettia Blooms Open Studio die set for layering purposes. Next, a second set of both flower sizes were die cut from white card stock which I sponged with Worn Lipstick distress oxide ink. I added more concentrated color to the petal’s center and lightened the pressure towards the petal tips. To show both layers, I slightly offset the petals and gently curved the paper before adhearing together. A quick spray of aerosol adhesive on the pink layers grabbed the chunky glitter for a frosty look.
The Batavia snowflakes added a bit more sparkle by using silver glitter paper–which cut through easily, even with the intricate detail on the dies!
Finally, the beautiful Brushstroke Merry Christmas die cut was adhered in place (again using spray adhesive…watch your surroundings for overspray though). Make several cards at a time using the “assembly line” method and find yourself ahead of the holiday crazies…you’ll thank yourself!
