I grew up in the cornfields of central Illinois, so when I saw the Old Fence stamp, it reminded me of driving the backroads after dark. Many of the intersections had no traffic signage of any kind, and you would only know you were coming up to an intersection by the light pole marking the corner and the turn in the fence. While I never saw spider webs quite this impressive highlighted by the light, I saw many a big black crow!
To create the card, I masked off a section of eggshell paper, then used a sponge finger dauber and Yellow Ochre Chalk ink to shade around the mask. I stamped the image in black, then colored over the spider web with the Clear Stardust pen to give it shimmer. Memory Box doesn't currently have a black gem, so I colored one of the Sparkling Diamond gems black with a Copic marker and adhered it to the center of the web to create a spider. I finished the card with a strip of paper from the new 6×6 Blackbird collection. I will be teaching this card (and 4 others) in my Memory Box Madness class at both Prairie Art Stamps in Springfield, Illinois and Inkspot in Kirkwood, Mo. Hope to see you there!
Win this stamp! Leave a comment with which Memory Box stamp reminds you of something in your childhood. You have until 9pm PST Wednesday (7/7) to enter the contest. Good luck!

I love this! Living on a farm, I too, was taken by the fence image. It reminds me of every morning when I look out our bedroom window to see birds gathered along the fence posts. I wonder if the spider from Web Crawler E1270 might work with this web?
I have to say that if you were to combine the Old Fence with the Flurry of Birds image, it would take me back to my great grandmother’s backyard, in the late 60’s…she had a huge yard with trees and rows of grapevines. It was always so peaceful until you made just enough noise to see the Alfred Hitchcock-esque scene fly from the trees!
Great images and thank you for the walk down the proverbial memory lane…hmmmm…memory box….
The fence with the spider web reminds me of an old haunted house down the road from my aunt’s house; I was so scared I would cross the street rather than walk past the house.
Hello Angela,
I like your card design. I keep seeing spiderwebs like the one in the old fence stamp. For some reason they do not remind me of Halloween but of when my parents used to send my sister and I to summer day camp. We went to Antietam Recreation Day Camp in Maryland every summer and we loved it there. For the morning elective you got to choose a variety of activites to go to…forting, archery/bb guns, crawl-fish hunting, games? uhh I can not remember what else and my sister is not picking up the phone, anyway we always chose forting and we had a fort that we where constantly maintaining and rebuilding due to structural damage from water balloon battles…as the first ones out in the woods for the day, we were the ones to clear the spiderwebs off of the trails. As we ran full speed down the trails, the forest filled with morning dew, the spiderwebs would catch us on our faces and arms and legs, and we would jump around trying to get them off of us. 🙂 I recently built a fort for our kitties but it was out of paper, not rocks and fallen tree limbs.
Thank you for sharing your card.
The fence reminds me of all the fun I had on my uncles farm as a kid and some scary moments. For some reason the gate reminds me of trying to get a bull into a confined area. We were supposed to be waving our arms and yelling to stop him when he came in our direction. Running for your life made a lot more sense to me!
Growing up in the midwest this fence reminds of the country roads, pumpkin patches, cornfields and farmland. A country drive in the fall with the trees in their splendor of golds and reds. A stop at the apple orchards for a taste of cider. The rolling hills and clouds in the sky seemed to go forever.
I. too, am from the midwest, but on looking through a bunch of the stamps – I have to say the shamrock one. My birthday is St. Patricks’ Day and the shamrock reminds me of a bracelet my dad picked out for me, on his very own, when I was a little girl. I still have it and wear the delicate little bracelet with the shamrocks on it for my birthday some 50+ years later! It is a very warm memory of my dad.
Your card really projected a spooky image! Actually the fence reminded me of trips to Cape Cod and the beautiful flowers flowing around it.
I love the kids trick or treating on the steps ringing the door bell. Like your card and the stamp is cool.
Love this technique, especially on halloween cards for this effect!
there are a couple of stamps that bring back memories and for very different reasons.
the candy pumpkin, because those are the kind we used to go trick or treating with. the birds, because my Uncle who lived right next door to us had an outside aviary with all different kinds of birds, beautiful canaries, different kinds of finches, quail, and i don’t remember all the others. and then the reindeers, because when we were little my Dad did woodworking, one year he made out of plywood a Nativity scence and a Santa and sleigh, and of course there had to be reindeer to pull the sleigh. Then as we got older he made some other reindeer out of MDF that stood on all 4’s with the big antelers! I still have that one as he made one for each of us when we got married for our homes. I am afraid now to [ut it up because it has deteriated with the years and the weather and I lost my dad 3 years ago in august and I want to keep this precious gift!
Being a country girl (even when I lived in Boston!) the fence post reminded me of Maine. Now back in Maine, it reminds me of how lucky I am….! Would be even luckier to win that stamp. Connie
I love the technique you used on this card; and would love a chance to win the stamp. Thanks for offering that chance.
Awesome card!!

There is something special about Autumn and this stamp is a good example of it.
Love this stamp too. But the vintage scroll reminds me of growing up in France.. gotta put that one on the need list.. :0 thanks for the chance to win.
Memory Lane!! Wow! Carries me back some 50 years to my most charished years on the farm. Your design and method is one that reaches the soul. Beautiful card and super colors.
I think my favorite is the Elegant Reindeer it reminds me of the year my sister and I left carrots for Santa’s reindeer. My dad put tracks on the driveway, to show they had been there to eat them.

This is a beautiful card. I really love the eerie light effect it gives. Can’t wait to see more!
It’s actually a new Poppy stamp that brings me back to my childhood…Suki Sweetheart reminds me of summer and the Bon Odori celebrations my parents used to take us to. I would wear my summer kimono which was made of a much lighter fabric and bright, fun colors and my bright pink obi wrapped around my waist.
I love your card, the spotlight is so cool, thanks for the tutorial on how you did it, this is a “must try”!!!
The “All is calm, All is Bright” sentiment stamp reminds me of Christmas Eve as a child, going to church with my family then anxiously awaiting a visit from Santa 🙂
wonderful – it does bring back memories of visiting my grandparents….
Thanks for the inspiration.

I love the Birch Trees stamp. I grew up in Wisconsin and my neighbor had a grove of paper white birch trees in his yard out in the country. From my bedroom window, I would watch the colors of the birch trees change from greens to vivid yellows to dark stripes in the heavy snow. Now that I live in the Deep South, there are days I miss those snowy white birch trees!
I grew up on a farm in IL too and I love stamps that remind me of the past like this. I collected owls in the 70’s, so I had to buy an owl stamp 30 years later from Memory Box for the memory!
Growing up and still living in smalltown Wisconsin, old fences such as this stamp depicts, still exist throughout the state – along with numerous crows! Can’t wait for the heat and humidity to subside and my favorite time of the year, fall, to roll around!
I laughed when I saw Fred P. Bear! He looks like the Coca Cola Bear from those great Christmas Coke commercials they used to show. We always had a lot of Coke around our house during the holidays and it was a special treat for our big family!
Wow! Love this stamp. Crazy about the light effect. It just makes you feel the cool fall air…even at 95 degrees!!
Great card!
My favorite is the tree with the little leaves on it because it reminds me of Fall. Even though Sept. was a hard time of year for me with all the changes with school, I still enjoyed the the beginning of a new start.

Night Cat and Snowflake Branches both remind me of my childhood!

This old fence stamp reminds me of a birthday cake my mom made for me when I was a child. I have a late Oct. b’day and she decorated my cake with a fence, cats, pumpkins, etc. She & icing were good friends.
This card just oozes a spooky Halloween night! Love it.
What a great card! Just love the fence. And I love the light effect!
Love how you did the beam of light. Would not have thought of that. And I wonder what our crow is thinking of, sitting on that old fence. Waiting for an unsuspecting goblin to come along. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Wow. I love the old fence stamp. The spider web is soooo cool. I also really like that new 6×6 pad!
It’s just not Halloween without an Ol’ Crow. Great card.
I can’t stand it. New products from Memory Box! Love, love, love the Halloween & Christmas
papers and stamps from last year. Looks like this year won’t be any different.
We were country farm folks….and old fences, spider webs….ugh…were common. Crows of course loved the garden and this bird seems an ‘ole crow to me.
My relatives live and lived on farms in Iowa. So this old fence does remind me of driving along the old country roads and seeing the fences along the side. Thanks for the chance.
Growing up in So.Cal. we didn’t have too many back roads, broken fences but that black bird reminds me of a crow that would swoop down and try to peck the tops of our heads every morning as we passed a particular house on our street. Now that I’m an adult I realize it was probably a mama just protecting her nest. Your card is great and I look forward to seeing the rest of the stamps.
Fantastic card! Love how you have the light shining behind the fence. One stamp that reminds me of my childhood is the Maple Branch which makes me think of the two big maple trees in front of my parents’ house that turn beautiful shades of red in the fall. I still love to see those trees in the fall…
