Mighty Oak
by Shelby

Good morning Memory Box fans.  I love the rich colors of Autumn and decided to incorporate the richness of the season into a perfectly masculine card.  Even guys enjoy receiving cards (even if they don't admit it)!

I used the wonderful die called Mighty Oak Frame and put the die Small Deer behind the tree.  2 perfectly paired dies = a fast easy card and perfectly masculine card.  Remember this video from a few months back using deli paper and distress crayons?

Distress Crayons and Deli Paper from Shelby Thomas on Vimeo.

Well instead of using distress crayons to create the color on the deli paper, I used DecoArts Metallic Lustre in Copper Kettle and Black Shimmer.  I applied the medium in several different ways.  For a thin coat, I used a paintbrush loaded with a lot of water and then lessened the amount of water to increase the opacity.  For the heaviest coverage, I applied the medium directly to the deli paper with my finger.

The sentiment is from an exclusive Memory Box set available from Simple Pleasures Stamps and Scrapbooking which was stamped in Versafine and then embossed with Copper embossing powder.

Thanks for popping in for a visit today!  See you next week:)!!

  1. What a great idea! Thanks for the tutorial and your cards are so lovely! Love the colors used on them all. I think it’s hard to come up with cards for men, so I’m thrilled to see your idea for the oak/masculine card. THanks

  2. Hi Mary…wax paper and deli paper are different. There is too much “wax” on the wax paper and will resist the mediums too much. Deli paper has very little wax (or something like wax)and is thinner and more pliable. Deli paper is the paper your sandwich comes with at a deli. I found mine at Sam’s club but some of my students found it at Costco and Wal-Mart too. Hope this helps
