Greetings friends. I want to share a technique with you today. I kept seeing people on social media coloring in coloring books with markers. One of the techniques I saw was to create a neon sign look to your coloring. In the videos, different artists were coloring their coloring book pages with black markers a first step. I didn’t want to do that, so I adapted the technique for cardmaking.

To start my card, I took some dark grey cardstock (almost black) and stamped it my dahlia image using black Versafine ink. I let the ink completely dry before moving on to the next step.

Next, I outlined the image using acrylic markers from Grabbie. You can see in my picture that I didn’t trace all of the floral lines. I tried coloring every line in my first attempt and thought it looked to “busy.” I also have some Posca paint pens, but I liked he look of the Grabbie better. Perhaps is was because the Grabbie pens had smaller nibs.

To make the flowers look more like a neon sign, I colored the center of each painted petal/leaf with a white acrylic marker.

This next step is optional, but I added a bit of colored pencil outside each of the painted lines to create a fuzziness around the image. The fuzziness is to help create the illusion that my “neon sign” flowers are glowing. Here is a close up:

I hope you give this technique a try. It was a lot of fun. Have a great weekend!
