Greetings friends. Today I want to share a technique with you for creating a watercolor background using bubbles. I have seen this technique around for years, but this was my first time trying it.

In a wide bowl or container, add some water with a touch of dishwashing soap. Blow some bubbles with a straw.

Next, scoop up some bubbles with some watercolor paper. I continued to blow through the straw while doing this because the bubbles started to pop.

Lightly touch the bubbles with a really wet paintbrush and some watercolor paint. Hint- don’t be like me. Make sure you put some plastic under your project because this makes a mess.

Allow the bubbles/paint to dry on your card. Play around with how many bubbles to use, different types of soap, etc. You will get lots of different looks. Don’t judge any of your papers while they are still wet. Let them dry and then decide if you like them. If you don’t, you could run the paper through the process again or you could die cut your favorite pieces.
Here is a close up of my first card. I used a little bit of gold metallic paint in my background for extra shine.

Here is a second card. Notice that the background is very different. You don’t have a lot of control in this technique:

For both cards, I stamped my butterfly onto watercolor paper and colored the image with Peerless watercolor paints.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
