Have you been enjoying the blog blitz this week featuring dies and stencils from the new Memory Box Winter 2014 release?
This morning's feature die is the Pinecone Frame—all together now…Oooo-ahhh. It's a beauty and today I want to share two cards using it in different directions.
This is one of those dies that removes the main design leaving "negative" space. So that means whatever color is behind the top layer will show through and define the design. I used a dark brown paper behind the die cut to give it contrast.
This is what the die looks like when you take it out of the package:
For the card above, I flipped the paper over after die cutting it. The branch decends from the upper right corner. Now, here's another version using the same die but this time without flipping the die cut paper over. The branch decends from the upper left corner.
So you can go either way–lefty or righty.
Both cards were watercolored (then dried), distress inked (then dried), stenciled or stamped (yep, dried again), spritzed with paint–then finally, dried. The pine needles (cut from green and kraft paper) were adhered with glossy accents. The Give Thanks sentiment was added to the Teramo label and tied with natural colored twine around the front panel.

Love the Pinecone die, just wish it didn’t cut a complete rectangle. That way it could be used on any size cards including standard European formats (A6).
