For today’s post I used the SENTIMENTAL IRIS Clear Stamp Set CL 5202 and my Kuretake watercolors.
Remember last Monday when I told you that I had cut my iris stamp to separate it from the leaves? I did that because I wanted to create clusters of iris blossoms without stems getting in the way. And because I layered irises I also created some masks by stamping two of the irises on regular cardstock and cut them out with my small detail scissors.
I stamped all of my images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on watercolor paper. You can tell from the photo above that I used the masks again and again as I stamped the clusters of blooms. Then I added a few stems where I thought they fit best. Once I finished painting I set them aside to dry. Then I used a variety of shape dies to cut them out and to cut dot papers shapes just a wee bit larger to mount them on: squares from the Studio Square Layers dies 30021; rectangles from the Rectangle Basic Set 30086; and ovals from the Stitched Oval Layers dies 30069.
Once the irises were attached to their dot papers I looked through my cards and chose colors that I felt would highlight the flowers–yellow Sweet Corn, a lovely lavender, a soft blue, and yellow-green Lettuce.
The irises in my yard have gone by already but I couldn’t resist taking a picture of the cards on the stone bench by my gardens on a sunny summer afternoon. Have you gotten your Sentimental Iris stamps and dies yet? I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine!!!
