New Release and Blog Blitz
by Laura Fulcher

Greetings friends.  On January 2nd, Memory Box had a new release of dies and two stamp sets in time for Valentine's Day and Spring.  Click the link above if you want to see the entire release.  This week we would like to share with you ideas for using the new items.  You will even have a chance to win prizes!

For my card today, I wanted to use the new Happy Penguin die because he makes me so happy.  The first step to make the card was to cut out the Stitched Circle Heartscape to create a fun background for Valentine's Day.  When you cut the die, this is what you get:

When you cut out the die, you get an open section for the sky as well as a stitched circle and tiny little heart openings.  The first time I ran the die through the machine, I used white paper.  I wanted a blue sky, so I ran the die through my machine a second time with blue cardstock to get a piece I could place in the circle opening.  To make the hearts red, I simply put a piece of red paper behind the heart openings.

Next I cut out the penguins.  When you cut out the penguins, you get tiny little pieces to make eyes and a nose. I suppose you could paper-piece them onto the card, but honestly, I think they are too small for that.  Instead, I colored a piece of paper with black and orange Copic splotches.  I then glued the splotches behind the eyes and nose so that the color showed through the openings cut by the die.  I also added a bit of grey Copic marker at the base of the penguins so that the white of the penguin bodies wouldn't blend into the white snow.  Here is a picture:

As a final touch, I added my sentiment as well as some Stickles under the penguins:

Want to win your own Happy Penguin?  Leave a comment on this post by Sunday, January 14th by 11:59pm EST.  Normally one winner is chosen at random from the comments left, but today is my birthday and I am implementing designer privilege and deciding that two people will win the penguin die.  Be sure to stop by each day through Friday.  Designers will be sharing new ideas and there will be a prize offered each day.  Winners will be posted on this blog Monday, January 15th in the afternoon.  Good luck and I hope you are inspired!
