Greetings friends. Today I want to share I card I colored by layering Distress Inks on top of each other. These are the colors of ink I used:

On a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of white cardstock, I sponged my colors so that they were approximately where my flowers and leaves would appear on the finished card. I did not measure or mark where I would place this bottom layer of color. It was simply to give a bottom impression of color under my stamped image:

I spritzed the paper lightly to get a splotchy look to the paint. I then let the paper completely dry and then made sure it was dry by heating it with a heat gun. You want to make sure there is no dampness to the card.
I rubbed the Distress inks with an embossing buddy and then stamped my flowers on top of the colors using Black Versafine ink. While the ink was still wet, I added black detail embossing powder and embossed my image black:

Next, I added extra color to the flowers and leaves using a second layer of the same Distress Inks. For each section, I dabbed some of the ink onto an acrylic block and used it as a palette. I picked up the color using a waterbrush and then painted the flowers and leaves with the Distress Inks. In the photo above, you can see where I painted some of the leaves as well as where I still needed to paint the leaves and stems.
Here is a close up of the flowers:

In retrospect, I wish I had chosen a different yellow or orange ink. They ended up being similar in color when painted. I didn’t want to add an extra layer of ink because I was using cardstock instead of watercolor paper and didn’t want to tear the paper. Sometimes you need to know to stop while you are ahead!
To finish the card, I added a sentiment from the same clear stamp set.
Thanks for stopping by today.
