Wild Leaves and Blooms
by Anne Thompson

Today’s card was actually inspired by a challenge quilt I made this past week. The theme was spring and I chose to use bright greens and golds to illustrate “Nature’s first green is gold…”, the first line from Robert Frost’s poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay”. My desk was covered with scraps of fabric, so I picked up one and used Scor-Tape to adhere it to a top-fold note card.

Next I went to the GREENERY SP1011 card stock pack and chose some olive-y green papers and die cut WILD LEAVES 94947 twice. I then took some white card stock and cut out one of the CINCHED FRAMES 94944. I mounted that frame on another piece of the Greenery card stock and adhered that panel to the front of the note card over the fabric strip. I used Glue Dots to stick on the leaves to look like a tall plant. I used a scrap of white card stock to die cut the large sunflower-y flowers from the FLOWER BASKET BOUQUET 94888. I colored those with brown, orange, and yellow colored pencils.

I added the single layer flowers to the leafy “stems” using more Glue Dots.

I decided not to add a sentiment until I know how I’m going to use this card because it seems perfect for so many occasions,

As I’m looking at the finished card, I’m thinking about tomato plants not yet in the ground. I’ve scattered lots of flower seeds and have many pots of flowers on the back deck and in the front yard. There’s a gentle rain falling and I think the plants are loving it. My dogwood tree is in blossom and everything is so green. Spring has arrived just in time for almost summer!
