Something Told the Wild Geese

I've been seeing lots of Canada geese in the area lately, as many as one hundred or more at Twin Ponds Farm the other afternoon. I see them fly over our pond, land and take off again, and love to hear them honking across the sky. As soon as I saw the images from the new Holiday 2012 release, I knew I had to use both the Flying Goose die and the Wetland Border stamp together.

This poem by Rachel Field is one I used often with my students in the fall and it popped into my head as I was unpacking my Holiday 2012 box.

Something Told the Wild Geese

 by Rachel Field

Something told the wild geese
It was time to go
Though the fields lay golden
Something whispered snow

Leaves were green and stirring
Berries luster glossed
But beneath warm feathers
Something cautioned frost

All the sagging orchards
Steamed with amber spice
But each wild breast stiffened
At remembered ice

Something told the wild geese
It was time to fly
Summer sun was on their wings
Winter, winter, winter in their cry

SUPPLIES:

  • Parchment Note Card
  • Kraft paper that is the back of the Valise Bauble paper
  • Die–Virtuoso Music 98356 from the Summer 2012 release
  • scrap of black card stock
  • Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive to attach the music
  • Die–Flying Goose 98425
  • one of the 6X6 papers from the Blackbird collection
  • pop-dots in two sizes to attach the flying goose to the card
  • stamp–Wetland Border F1892
  • Archival Sepia Ink
  • August tag from the Valise Keepsake paper
  • pop-dots, small, to attach the tag to the card front

I think this will be the perfect card for a guy I know with an August birthday!  I'll just write a message on the inside and tuck in a copy of the poem. Stamping the Wetland Border across the bottom front of the envelope will be that something extra!

Today is also the start of a Blog Blitz on the Outside the Box blog.  Each day, there will be posts highlighting stamps and dies from the latest What's in the Box release.  Be sure to comment on the blog posts.  Each day, two winners will be chosen at random from the comments to win one of the new Memory Box dies.  You have until 11:59pm (EST) each day to leave your comment.  Good luck!

Happy Crafting!

  6. This is such a great guy card, really do like that goose die cut and the poem too. We’ve had a big cool down in Michigan and the last couple of days I’ve noticed a lot of geese flying around. I think they’re confused as to the time of year!
