Decorate a birthday cake and create a cake plate for a special celebration.  Hi, Jean here – with a DIY design from repurposed dies that didn’t expect to become a cake plate.

Cut the new Party Layer Cake from the pink and gold Glimmering Gladiola floral print.  Cut the scalloped accents from dark pink cardstock – we’re using just 2 of the smaller diecuts for the top tier.  Cut 7 candles from light pink cardstock and color the wicks with a light yellow marker.

Here’s where we get a little creative –  I was determined  to create a cake plate.  Cut about 3/8″ of the light gold Vintage Pastel Mirror Pad 6×6 with a long edge of the 3-1/2″ x 2″ (approximately) Fringed Scalloped  Frame Set die.  Cut the diagonal-textured Birthday Party Hat from the reverse side of the light gold cardstock – so the diagonal scorelines aren’t visible when it’s used for the plate.  If the lines are still visible, place the triangle between 2 pieces of printer paper and smooth them out by the triangle through the diecut machine with the plates used for cutting.  Trim the bottom for a flat base.

Prep light pink cardstock with the embossing powder tool to eliminate stray specs of  powder. Stamp the greeting – from the Birthday Chic Clear Stamp and Die Set with VersaMark and heat-emboss  it with detail gold powder.  Trim it with the smallest Fringed Scalloped Frame die.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded 5-1/2″ square card of natural cardstock.  Punch 1/4″ dots of the yellow/orange Graceful Garden Glitter Pad 6×6.  Cut a 5-1/2″ square of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

Thanks for visiting our blog  – see you on Thursday!
